Adult PEERS Social Skills Group at Aspire

PEERS Social Skills Group is a 30-week evidence-based social skills program for motivated adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities over the age of 18 who are interested in learning ways to make and keep friends, navigate social interactions, handle conflict and rejection, and develop romantic relationships.

Building Relationships, One Skill at a Time

During each group session held at Aspire’s office in Connecticut, participants will learn important social skills and be given the opportunity to practice these skills during socialization activities. Each group session includes instruction, modeling, coaching, and ongoing feedback from Licensed Behavior Analysts. To ensure all participants have a valuable experience, the group will be kept to a 10-person maximum.

Skills covered include:
• How to use appropriate conversational skills.
• How to appropriately use electronic communication.
• How to start, enter and exit conversations with peers.
• How to choose appropriate peers.
• How to use appropriate humor.
• How to organize successful get-togethers.
• How to develop romantic relationships.
• Dating etiquette/skills.
• How to handle arguments and disagreements.
• How to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying.

Schedule & Meeting Location:
This group will begin in February 2023 and will run every Thursday for 30 weeks in our Meriden office from 4 PM to 6 PM with optional remote access for those who may be sick, or have difficulty getting to Meriden in person.
